Hazer, because thousands people do so and have an amazing results. I never used anything like MH or fluoriscent bulbs for veg after I saw what HPS can do with my plants. teckS, 430 > 400 =) HPS is pretty good for veg.

required pH for hyroponics is 5.2-5.8. This is your main problem, as I can see. When you'll fix your pH, you see results. This necrosis may slowly kill your plants. And one more... Did you fix lavarock pH before use?
