    Inexpensive Digital Microscope

If $40 is slowing you down, check out my thread on the 175x DIY digital microscope for a quick and cheap (maybe free) option. All you need is a bobby pin and either an old CDROM drive (older the better, lenses used to be larger) or a laser pointer you are willing to sacrifice. Dismantle to...

So I have had mites and powder mildew now I got.....

+1 for sticky traps for early warning of bugs, especially after you've already had a few outbreaks. They're cheap and effective for diagnosing many bug situations. I used to use them in my last operation and now that I'm reminded I'm ordering some myself.

    Zinc deficiency ? Pls help

Do you mean the lower fan leaves or all the leaves? It's normal for lower fan leaves to yellow as flowering progresses. I've never grown an auto before, but I assume that's equally true like it is for photoperiod strains. How long is that strain supposed to flower for? If it's in the last couple...

    Zinc deficiency ? Pls help

If you can't get a photo up, you will at least need to give us a lot more information. Soil or hydro? What nutes are you using? If it's hydro, what's the pH and ppm of the nutrient solution and are you using tap or distilled/RO water? What are the temps, humidity of the room?

    Trying this DWC thing again

False alarm for both plants I thought may be sexing. When I found my loupe and checked, neither had preflowers. I think I should look into some reading glasses..... As the photos below show, I moved one plant into the flowering room. I figure it should sex soon enough. Others are looking...

El Dorado (+freebies), SCROG in soil

Been awhile since the last update. Got a new 600w hps and upgraded the ventilation system. The humidity has been extremely low in the room (below 20% some days), so some of the leaves are looking a bit dry even with near-daily watering. The freebie still shows signs of nute burn, but oh well...

    Trying this DWC thing again

Oh and as far as nutes, I'm currently just using FloraMicro+FloraGro, plus Armor Si, which the guy at the hydro shop swore by and even threw in as a freebie when I expressed skepticism. Based on the suggestion from my other post, I'll be adding cal mag, but haven't yet.

    Trying this DWC thing again

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I'll be updating with photos tonight or tomorrow, but the three larger plants are starting to alternate nodes and two have sexed (90% sure on one, can't find my loupe though and eyes aren't what they used to be, you know?). Looks like one freebie is a boy, one...

Slight discoloration on margin of leaves

Interesting about why calmag matters more for hydro. I'm actually issuing tap water (bubbled and pHed 24 hours first). So the actual ppm of the solution was over 550, I was subtracting the 110 ppm that it is out of the tap to get the 450 number. The water utility publishes water analysis...

Slight discoloration on margin of leaves

Thanks! Next res change is tonight so I'll increase the dose of fooood.

Slight discoloration on margin of leaves

I've never seen this kind of thing before, but I've only grown organically in soil before, and these are GH nutes in a DWC, so not sure if this is some deficiency that wouldn't often happen in soil. The plants in question seem otherwise healthy. Anyone have any thoughts about what might be...

    Trying this DWC thing again

Oh, and pH has been fairly stable in the 5.5-6 range, ppm are around 450 now, using GH two part, veg. Res temps vary from 65 to 72, mostly on the lower end.

    Trying this DWC thing again

The plants have been growing quickly, but I've noticed a strange splotchy look on the margins of the fan leaves of two of the plants. The photos below show them. One is a freebie and one is an ElDorado, so it's not strain specific. I've never seen anything like this in plants grown in soil...

    Washington DC legalization countdown

It got even more interesting today, with some members of Congress saying the DC mayor should face jail time for declaring the law effective tonight. If you click on the earlier article, the new ones should be listed to the right.

    Trying this DWC thing again

The pics didn't show up in the middle of the post for you? I thought I had inserted them in the middle to make it easier to see which was which.... Sorry about that! The future updates will all be shorter.

    Bug ID?

Whew, crisis averted, this is about that family of beetle: Food chiefly insects but food preferences vary; adults evidently feed on flower-visiting insects and pollen, larvae are primarily predators of other insects

    Bug ID?

I think you nailed it: http://bugguide.net/node/view/50127 Herbaceous plants? Check. Attracted to lights? Check. Now what does it EAT?

    Bug ID?

Obviously it's some kind of beetle, not sure how it got in the grow room though. Any guesses what this guy is? Please tell me he's not a vegetarian....
