Austin dealing with more than 30 synthetic marijuana cases

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Medical officials in Central Texas have treated more than 30 people who got sick from synthetic marijuana in cases since the weekend.
Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Service on Monday reported personnel dealt with more than two dozen incidents of people sick from so-called "K2." At least 31 patients were linked to use of the substance, which experts say can be toxic, in emergency calls since Friday.
Austin-Travis County EMS did not immediately provide conditions of the patients.
KS is a synthetic cannabinoid that mimics the effects of marijuana, but the manufactured version can be far more potent - even deadly.
All 50 states have banned cannabinoids by outlawing specific compounds since 2011. A federal law in 2012 added certain cannabinoids to the U.S. controlled substances list.
