I remember I was talking to a girlfriend when the first plane hit, turned on the tv and watched the second plane. I will never forget it.
Starting to sink in I start calling all I knew if they were ok. My Brother, Brother -in-law, my stepdaughter were possible victims. Hey were all ok. A day later when it really sinks in when you realize all the firemen, cops ,2 sisters who lived close, a friend of mine who got suck out of the building. I went to his funeral with no remains found. My BIL had a friend who had 3 kids and one on the way gone. My nephews hs Chaminade a very good preppy hs lost 14 alumni. Seven days later a friend comes by my house to ask for help loading a stove on the truck he and others were going to the WTC to feed people. Im going with you and with a refrigerator truck and box truck with everything went there.Could not even get close, we were fortunate and was set up for a sgt to escort us there. My first picture in my brain was raining with such devastation and still smoldering. I will never forget it. The air quality was very bad with dust still from the site and many trailers with big generators that fed the buildings with power, so they go work remotely
I remember in a parking garage surreal smoking a joint seeing BMW's and Mercedes and high-end cars covered in dust. Their owners never coming back.People writing on the walls with pictures if they seen this person.
Americal got that warm feeling for 5 minutes and forgot. It happened in NY and the pouring of emotion from the nation was moving.
We are in worse shape now then we were then. We were eventually told to go because the means to make great great money dealing with all aspects of this disaster was to be made. We were doing it from our hearts, their pockets spoke louder.
RIP to all those we lost and peace to all from the heartache that day still brings.
