1. Hey again you guys.... A while back I purchased a small (Carson MM-300 Lighted Pocket Microscope) to view my Tricombs to tell when to harvest. That thing is really hard to use! Dept of field and focusing are near impossible. WAY too much gigling too with your hands etc. See attached jpeg.

2. So, I bought another type of magnifiyer. A hand held X30 LED Lighted model.....See attached jpeg. It's fine for looking at the tops closer but not close enough to really see the tricombs.

My Question to you guys: Is there anything out there that would be ideal for viewing the "clear-cloudy-both" views of the tricombs that isn't too expensive? You probably have to go higher magnification than X30 to see them (as noted with the hand held magnifyer).

Let me know.
As always.... Thank You!
Reesche

Mine is a 30x but just like that one.
However I am going to get one like this next check comes in
as my 30x isn't strong enough.

This is just what I need.

Thanks...

Poet... Are you talking about the hand held? If so, defenatily not powerful enough. I think you'll need a X60 to see them like you should. Reesche

Reesch,

Wow! thanks for the input.
And I am definitely looking for better magnification.
My first magnifier had a light and I loved it,
but was useless as it lasted about half an hour.
I have better luck seeing in the grow room under my hps.
Other types of light including the Sun!...
aren't as good as viewing them in place.

A larger, stronger lens... {I'll get a 60x, thanks} would be very helpful.
I've been poor for a long time but am making a recovery.
The 30x was alright and did the job but a better light would just
make me feel better about the world like being rich or something,
it is something that I really need and I never thought about till I read your post with all the pictures!

Thank you...

Ok you guys.... spent some time Shooting my buds with my 100 MACRO lens with my Nikon DC. I got in as close as I could, but it's NOT close enough to see the tricombs well. See attached jpegs. Note the orange highlights showing how much further in you'd have to go to really see the tricombs!

I'm thinking about ordering one of the digital microscopes.... The $24.00 one I mentioned above in one of my replies. What are you going to get for $24.00??? X40 to X1000 magnification. (I am not pimping this product)

A couple good things using this is .....
1. You'd have to set up one of your plants close to your computer for the USB cord/magnifier to reach to your computer.
2. If you can get the magnifier close enough, there would not be any handling shake of the plant or magnifier.
3. You could take screen shots of what you set up to send via email
4. You probably would be able to take more time to view the beauty of the tricombs and make your critical decision... of when to harvest or not.

Hey Rosebud..... I saw those but..... is 60X really enough to go deep into the Tricombs to see clear/cloudy/amber? Also, is the eye piece large enough to really get your eye ball into it? Hand Shake? Thanks for your reply!

I can see my trichomes well enough with a 40X. A 60X will work even better.

Yes, i am old, and I can see with the 60 just fine. THG told me years ago to take a leaf and cut it and go to the table and look at it. That was good advice. I have been using those for 9 years I bet.

60x is what i've been using for years and is plenty powerful enough.

I have a jewelers loop and a max-see WiFi microscope. Can see the images on my iPad. Around $50 on Amazon

I bought one of these. It didnt work as a mobile camera in the grow area. It worked much better to take samples to the scope for me. Too many gizmos to carry, and was cumbersome to try to carry and operate controls at the same time.

As a stand alone station, it is stellar.

Cut a small Leaf and view it taking the shake out of play? GOOD IDEA !!!!

I had issues getting it to work with my iPhone. It works perfectly with the iPad. I don’t know why! And I was able to set it up next to the plant so I don’t have to hold it in my hand. Definitely shakes a lot in the hand

Steve 1.....I have a link below.....is this what you have?

If so, what is it like to use it? Do you get good detail when you go to it's extreme Magnification? What is focus like? Can you attach an example of a photo of your tricombs so I can see?

Thanks
Reesche
This is the one bought. It can be a little difficult to hold steady so what I do is take a plant out of the room and set it on the floor and set the scope on a stool next to it. Or if you want to look at say damage to a leaf then you can set it on a table. Your hand has a tendency to shake too much. I like it. It has a wheel that you rotate for fine adjustments and 2 buttons that zoom it in by increments. 1.2,1.4 etc
