Does anyone know now of a way to stop algea from growing in my buckets without killing the plant?

Yes, deprive the area of light.

Algea requires light to grow. Cover all your buckets and make them light proof. This will stop all algea growth.

Good luck to you.

They also make those liquids and tablets for little yard ponds and stuff, they are supposed to be natural and non-harmful for plants and fish. My buddy used them in his pond and the plants and critters were fine, I don't know what possible effects it could have on MJ though.
