My plant has 2 weeks into the flowering stages. It has definitely w/o a doubt shown bud in many different places. The plant was branching off w/o a pattern and becoming so dense the leaves ran into each other. As a result of it density in foliage the bottom of it received much less light than the top. I trimmed my plant thinking it was for its own benefit. I think I did an extreme trimming and I'm only hoping not to have overtrimmed. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on what to do with all the leaves I cut off. Can I smoke them or bake or anything else to achieve a high? http://photos.yahoo.com/villa029 Dated and commented accordingly.

You should never trim off leaves as they are being used by the plant. Save your trimmings and you can make some ISO hash oil. Here is a link. http://www.marijuanapassion.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1581&highlight=iso+hash+oil

So was this the wrong thing for me to do? The buds are exposed to direct sunlight much more than they were before.

The buds don't need to have sunlight. The leaves are what gather the sunlight for the buds to grow. The buds gather some light, but not even close to the amount of light that the leaves collect.

As Bro Grunt said, you shouldn't have trimmed your plant. The bud will still grow now, but at a much slower rate than if you had left the leaves on.

Good luck to you man. The plant should grow more sun leaf since you're only a week into flower. Leave all of the new leaf on the plant.

ok, TBG's and Stoney's responses make sense, but if that is the case, then why do I keep seeing people's growing plants where practically all growth save for the uppermost has been completely stripped away? The rationale the growers keep giving is that they are forcing the plant to concentrate it's energy on the most productive upper buds and not waste any on the lower branches. The pics they post show plants with maybe six or seven main branches of solid bud on top with seemingly no other growth anywhere. Is there something I'm missing?

Can link to some pix if you want. Thanks a lot.

This one's not exactly as I described, but it does illustrate my point.

Look at "where" the trimming was done. They trimmed "lower" branches/growth.(stuff recieving less, little or no light) to promote more "top" growth. All of the upper growth looks to be in pristine condition with no missing leaves.
"Google" photosynthesis for a more indepth explanation.

Basically from this post I should arrive at the conclusion that I F^(ed up, right? The leaves should remain on the plant to absorb light. By trimming I'm essentially decreasing the plants ability to absorb light. The concept of trimming to expose the buds to light is not beneficial since buds are less efficient to photosynthesize than leaves. Anyone correct me if my conclusions are not right. Also what do you guys think about my pics: http://photos.yahoo.com/villa029 go to view all villa029 photos and you can see accurately dated weekly photo journal of its growth. You can see how much I trimmed.

It looks to me like you have plenty of fan leaves left. I guess I'd keep going and see what you end up with. It's too bad you don't also have a 'control' plant that you didn't trim at all, so you could compare the two at the end. From Hick's reply it seems safe to assume that it's OK to trim the lower portions that don't get much light, but that would go against the school of thought that says to never ever trim anything. Still not sure if trimming the lower part is 'desirable' though.
