What do I use to heat a plastic-walled greenhouse that won't result in a towering inferno? I was thinking of a propane-burning camp stove, but since I want to run a 400w HPS during the night for 24-hour lighting, an open flame may be a bad idea. My second pick would be a ceramic heater, but I am uneasy about that as well.

Look into an Oil Filled Radiator Heater. They are more energy efficient and I’d assume safer than a ceramic heater. I was suggested one and it works great.

Not sure how big you're talking
    My G.H. was 10 x 18 x 24.
I used alcohol lamps till it started freezing at night.
Only need enuff to keep the freeze out if daytime temps are good.

I am thinking of 10x10 and perhaps 10x20. The frame will be a repurposed tent canopy with reinforced metal pipes and rolled semi-transparent plastic. (Props to everyone for the replies.)

I used 2 milk house heaters last year in a 10 x 10 plastic greenhouse without any problems.
