I am very new in this indoor cultivation. I ordered myself hydroponics system with 90W Led panel hXXp://www.sonlight.biz/led.html

My hydroponics tank takes 30 plants but i am planning to start with 10 or 15 plants for the first time.

The tank is 1 meter long and it is surrounded with mylar reflective sheet. My question is, would 90W LED panel enough for 4m2 space?

This setup was suggested by the growshop owners. They claim that 90W LED Panel is equivalent to 400Watt HID lamp. But i wanted to be sure by asking this here..

Thanks

Welcome to MP ...IMO..they are salesman and want your Money..I would go will HID..as I do...Ill let some others post up they opinions..untill then

take care and be safe

No. There is no way that a 90W LED panel comes close to a 400W HPS. I wish those selling LEDs would quit comparing them to HIDs. It is like apples to oranges--there is no comparision. And if you are talking about 4 sq meters (approx 43 sq ft), not even close. However, even if you had a 400W HPS, that will not even come close. A space that size needs like 2 1000W HPS.

Thanks..

Fortunately I have spare 2x Agrolux 600W HID at home. So i will put those 600W into flowering and put the 90W LED for vegetating.

You are still going to have to make your space smaller. Two 600W HPS will cover about 32-36 sq ft.

Hi,

Yes thats what i am planning actually.. I am going to divide the room into 2 and use some part of them for the mother + clones and the other part for the flowering..

The HID lamps will light the 1.5m² and the LED lamp will do the rest..

I like having separate veg and flowering spaces.

Way better to have seperate rooms...specially for prepetual(sp) grows..I too have a veg room and 2 seperate flower rooms...

Would 2x 600 Watt HID give good yields in 1.5m² flowering room surrounded with mylar reflective shields overall? Or should I make it even more smaller?

yes i use 2 x 600w hps's in room 8' x 4.5' and get decent results.

You want a minimum of 5000 lumens per sq ft for flowering, so you actually could make it bigger than 1.5 sq meters (if my calculations are right is a little over 16 sq ft?).

I also am not a big fan of mylar. It needs to be hung straight and without wrinkles to get that great reflective %, which is really hard. It also does not wash well. FLAT white paint is almost just as reflective, cleans well, is readily available, and is inexpensive.

Diamond mylar is what i use and doesnt crease easily and is easy to clean and the most reflective available.
Fyi a 600w will illuminate effectively 1.5sqm so you can double that space with 2 x 600's so 3sqm.
90,000 lumen output per 600w hps gives you a little over 5,000 lumens per sqf.

Is your space 1.5m x 1.5m? or 1.5sqm? The first is 25sqft while the second is 5sqft. If your space is only 1.5sqm then 1 600w light will be a plenty. If your space is 1.5m x 1.5m then 1 600w will be a bit underlit while 2 600w will be a plenty.

Actually my room is like 4m x 2m but I will divide it to 2 to seperate veg and flowering rooms. I am just trying to figure out the optimum space i should allocate for my flowering room to use 2x 600 W HID.

So looks like 2m x 1m room space using 2x600 Watt would be good lighting source to my 15 aeroponics plants. Am i right?

2 600 watt lights are more than enough for 8 sqm.

1 600 is more than enough for half that space.

Eight sq meters is over 86 sq ft (157.48" x 78.74"). It will take more than 2 600W to light that much space. Two 600W are good for 36 sq ft or so...so what is that....a little over 3 sq meters (my metric is a little rusty)?

Hey Growdude; I hate to disagree but 8 square meters is equal to 87.5 square feet. At 3000 lumens per sqft you would need 262,467 lumens to cover it for veg. for flower you need 5000 lumens per sqft, which is 437,445 lumens. Unless my math is wrong. There are 2.54 cm to an inch or 30.48cm to a ft. 1 meter is 100cm so 400cm is equal to 13.123ft and 200cm is equal to 6.56ft. So 4m x 2m is equal to 13.123ft x 6.56ft which equals 86.086sqft.

If you split the room lengthwise you would have 4m x1m. then use 1m x 1m for veg and 1m x 3m for flower. for flower you would have 32sqft x 5000lumens = 161,376 lumens needed. 2 600w HPS digibalasts give about 92k lumens each for 184,000 lumens for flowering. If my claculations are correct.

The 1m x1m veg space would be equal to about 11sqft. At 3000lumens per sqft for veg you would need 33,000 lumens which could be covered good with 8 T5 bulbs or 1 400w MH fixture.

Im still waiting to see Stoneybuds 9 grams per watt with leds.
