recently I began using cannabis for some health issues. I understand the concept of tolerance as it relates to getting high; my question is if one consumes cannabis for health reasons only will there be a tolerance that develops such that the pain relieving aspect (for example) will diminish?

I would say yes, you will eventually start to build a tolerance just like with most medications.
If it happens you can try a different breed or take what we call a "tolerance break" for a couple weeks, it works wonders.

If you are talking smoking flowers then yes a tolerance happens to me. But if you are talking medical oil, like RSO or Feco, than no tolerance that I know of.
