My first grown (indoor tent)

I see lots of picks of tiny sprouts chopped up and tied down to pots for some reason. I think people do these things because they are growing pot, and this is what they read to do, so they do it. At the same time, you are cursing your plant to be a survivor, not a thriver. Thrivers are flush and yield well.....survivors, well they survive and yield, not so much. When plant isnt doing well, they spray it with everything the local grow store sells to "heal" it.

Topping? I never do it until about the 6th set or so. Then cut it down where it would be if you did it on the 3rd set, but stalk and roots system much larger and stouter. The top will cause the stalk to bulk up too, big stalks support big buds.

LST? I think its complete **, just to get people "involved" with their grow, and buy more stuff they dont need. How many times do you see one of these tortured babies, topped and tied down and the poor thing is barely got 5 leaflets. Just guide the stalk to the hole in the net, you don't have to tie it down when its in its infancy.

If you want a stem to go somewhere its not inclined to, (once its a couple feet tall or so, not a sprout) just munch it between your thumb and finger, and bend it where ever it needs to go. This of course assumes one knows where it "needs to go" and all. When a plant is that small, the "branches" that you are tying down will (should be) cut away anyhow by the time the plant is a couple feet tall.

Just be patient, you don't have to perform every know weed growing trick on you few day old sprouts. Wait until it is a plant at least. All that kind of attention will almost guarantee to have a crop of survivors, not thrivers.

Before you go topping, your plant should more resemble a big ball of leaves, not a scrawny sprout barely out of the seed. If it is a few weeks old and only still scrawny, something is wrong.

One of the best things to have for this hobby of growing is completely free, and is likely the most valuable thing a new grower needs.
You can't go buy it, it has to come naturally. PATIENCE. Forget the newby approach of "OK, I'm going to grow, so I must incorporate every known method, product and technique in the book." Warning will Robinson, this is a recipe for low yield survivors. Forget all this and just grow
simply.

Here's an example. 2x4 tent, 6" infinity fan and filter. 3 100 watt panels (from the wall) or whatever 300 watt package you like, my choice for this? Mars Hydro SP 3000. For this experiment, I used 3 Phlizon 1000 LED panel, about 100 watts each, right now, 79 bucks each on ebay. SP 3000 better? Yes, but keeping it simple, and cheap. I veg 24 hrs.

Dirt? Ocean Forest. Yes, there are others, but this works.

Kept nutes simple for this one, NUKEHEADS. Two jars, one veg, one flower. In retrospect, if 4 weeks is enough veg, just get the flower, OF will carry you through 4 weeks. If dark green, dial back nutes, if yellowish, dial up. Simple.

Genetics: OG Kush

Typical heat: 76-83 F. Typical RH: 45-65

Veg 4 weeks total, topped at 6th node down to 3rd, remove shoots and growth below. Top again. 12/12 8-9 weeks.

Yield 10 oz manicured.

Can it be better? Oh yes indeed it can be! I figured a properly run 2x4 should yield a pound, so I'm a little light. 4x4 should bring 2 lbs.

BUT: I see much much worse results regularly. This is an example of inexpensive tent, Mars Hydro, inexpensive lights, 3 Phlizon 1000 LED panels, easy to source dirt, Ocean Forest, and easy simple nute regime. Tent less than 100 on sale, lights $79 bucks x3, dirt and pots 45 bucks, Nutes 30-45 bucks.

Under 450, 10 oz result. Again, far from astounding, but good decent yield. Most important, with a little patience, anyone can replicate this simply.

Going into veg stage this week, should I buy another 600 watt led for veg or wait till flowering?

Update. Week 2 into veg no problems so far. All green and potent already. The plant I accidentally topp is growing bushy. Anxious to see final results.
