I have a brand new grow tent 3 by 5 feet and it didn't come with everything I need like lights and ventilation ect. what's the most wattage I should use one my plants with out harming them

You can stick a 1k HPS in there no problem. But if funds are tight a 600 will get it done.

I would also put a 1000W in there. Get an air coolable hood. You will also need an exhaust fan. Most of us use centrifuge type fans like Vortex, Can, ect.

The more light the better, the difference in price between a 600 & 1000 is nominal so go for the 1000 watt.
You cant harm a plant with too much light, however you can burn it by the light being too close.
Each persons set up is different so you will need to fiqure what best works for you.
You should also get a temp. & humidity meter so you can monitor and adjust your space.
I would read up on this site and dont rush your choices.
