I grew up in Macon, GA, and I cut my teeth on that sweet soulfull stuff. I've seen him, Little Richard and James Brown in local venues. Got to watch Percy Sledge cut an album in the old Capricorn Studios. Saw everyone from Aretha to Major Lance at the soul shows at the old auditorium--the promoters would throw sawdust on the floor, and make us few white kids who showed sit in the balcony way over on one side. But they let us share the music cause they knew we loved it as much as they did--and the races weren't sharing much in the mid-sixties in the South.
