George Lindsey -- who appeared on such classic TV shows as "The Andy Griffith Show," "Gunsmoke" and "Hee Haw" -- died Sunday morning after an extended illness. He was 83.

He always made me laugh and always will. RIP Goob

I liked Goober, and respect his work and memory...but IMHO Gomer was much better...

Just FYI, George Lindsey (Goober) and Jim Nabors (Gomer) auditioned at the same time for the show. Gomer was chosen, but when he left for his own show (Gomer Pyle, USMC), Goober was hired to replace him.

The actor who played "Ernest T" actually directed about 5 episodes...and I HATED Helen Crump...Ellie the druggist was much more hot...but was replaced after the first season without explanation...
