Three men were arrested and almost 2,900 marijuana plants seized on Tuesday after a major grow-op bust by the RCMP near Ste. Amélie, Man., northwest of Winnipeg.

RCMP, using a search warrant, found a large scale marijuana grow operation at the secluded, rural property.

In the raid, "approximately 2,871 marijuana plants" were seized, police said

"This is regarded to be a significant commercial operation," the RCMP said in a media release.

The plants have an estimated street value of about $2.9 million, police said.

Six greenhouses — each about 186 square meters in size — were operating on the site and two more greenhouses were under construction, police said.

"Based on the sheer size and the magnitude of it, it's very sophisticated and well funded and operated. And typically that means there's organized crime," RCMP Const. Miles Hiebert said.

Ste. Amélie is about 300 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.
