can we tell the difference by the leafs or the look
 
Indica have big fat fingered leaves and Sativa have long skinny fingered leaves

Agreed. Also sativas usually grow much taller and generally have a much less potent odor.
 
I don't understand the purpose or origin of the above quotations...
 
Most strains now are hybrids. However they will generally be either sativa dominant or indica dominant and from the leaves and growth patterns, you can generally tell if they are sativa or indica dominant.

Indica has fat leaves and short bush, where as sativa has thin leaves and tall bush. Indicas are just opposite of sativas. Indicas are higher in CBD and Sativas are higher in THC.
 
I like to use "Golden delicious Apples!" as an expletive when I have to self-censor....
