I used Turbo Tax when i was a young man. Ive had my own Tax man for over 20 yrs now. He worked for the IRS for 15yrs before he started his own business. He hates the IRS and knows all the ins and outs, including things that throw up red flags.
We just got informed our accountant is going to ask for an extension, she has had all our stuff since mid Feb.
My employer is going to be late with our K-1s again. Something about a new tax law and how R&D money is counted, a very stealthy corporate tax hike.
It means I have to guess how much the disbursement will be to avoid steep fines. It also means I have to make sure I overpay my taxes until I can actually file, and because of the new law the amount they say I owe will increase unpredictably. I only know the increase will be significant. So I will very likely be fined for not paying taxes I have no means of calculating.

My previous tax preparer had also worked for the IRS and I trusted him more than any other I have ever used. I trusted that he knew the ins and outs of allowable deductions and necessary documentation. Unfortunately, he retired a few years ago and I have not found another one that I would trust to do mine. I have used the TurboTax or similar since he retired. My tax obligations have changed as of last year and need to find another preparer I can trust again. Fact is IRS is the most powerful agency in the United Staes. The IRS is not subject to Constitutional checks and balances. They can go after anyone. Al Capone with all his criminal activity - It was the IRS that got the last laugh. They are a private agency that can do what they want.

My wife is a CPA/Auditor, but she's no longer in public.
I bought a unique one-man mobile business franchise ten years ago. Made good money for my 16 hour days.
She wouldn't touch my taxes then - had to get some guy from Texas to handle them. UGH. We're still not done with extensions...
When she was in public, her primary domain was audit (DON'T MARRY AN AUDITOR! Can't hide nothin'! lol). and during tax season she subbed as a tax accountant. Even with her knowledge, and within her profession, it was a well-known fact that if you call IRS with one SPECIFIC question, you always get 10 different 'answers' from 10 different IRS "specialists".
My accountant worked for the IRS for 15yrs.

My old accountant was very good. He was good at prompting my wife for dubious business expenses when she was doing real estate full time. He is now in jail for embezzlement. Not from us. I sure miss him at tax time.

Nothing worse than a well armed country that is broke.
If I was you I wouldn't pay those fking taxes.
And when they come to visit you,,give me a call and I'll give you my accountants number.

Now they make me a cash only business.
Their law not mine so if they have no way of tracking then they are slacking.
I pay self employed with zero deductions on every penny that goes through a account of any kind..........just eats my azzz to do so.
It isn't the money out of pocket its how its spent.
I fully accept taxes must be paid to provide A certain amount of infrastructure......I pay that gladly.
I also accept human nature so realize A certain amount of corruption is gonna happen.
What is unacceptable to me is my money funding abortion,other countries,illegal aliens....... anyone other than America or Americans.
Just my wack .025 centavos.
