Rather than clutter up other threads I’ll start one just for my model building.

Currently building an old pylon racing plane called Quickie 500. It’s very fast, and a small airframe. Sports a 51 inch wingspan, weighs in around 3.5-4 pounds finished. This one is getting a new .46 cubic inch methanol burning glow engine.
Worked on the wings this morning. Rough shape in the wing tips is finished. Now it’s time for the fun part. Sanding to shape!!

Sanding blocks are from cut down 2x4, planed perfectly flat. Blocks can be purchased but why spend money when you can just make the tool needed. Sandpaper is glued to the blocks. Starting with 80 grit. Then the final shaping comes with 220 grit. The entire wood surface will eventually get sanded with 800 grit prior to covering for a smooth finish. This is the time I start to get familiar with the airframe. Sanding, light touches with fingertips to feel imperfections. By the time she takes to the air I’ll have touched and caressed every part of this airframe. That’s why planes are girls

I use to make my own sanding blocks doing auto body work.

Rough shape, moving on until I come back with 220 later. I’ll add a few bits of wood to fill in some holes. This is the wingtip shape when finished.

Now I give you the unedited, nasty pictures.
Orange bird on the wall is another quickie 500.
Silver is a Zero, the camo bird is an old Spitfire that needs landing gear replacement before she flies again.
The red plane beside it is called a Four Star, it’s a great bird. Highly aerobatic yet docile when it needs to be. She’s one of the go-to birds for everyday flying. There’s another spitfire and a Home Depot gutter plane in the bathroom The small wing is a foam build. Electric motor. 27 inch wingspan and good for approx 120mph. You blink three times before flying it. And blink after you land it!!!
Shelf’s with plastic model kits I find online. Several NASCAR builds, most dating back to early 90’s. I remember helping my dad build them when I was around 3-5 years old . The Bobby Allison Coca-Cola Monte Carlo is from around 1972. I’ll organize it one day…. Again….. ADHD is ***** lol.

Have you learned to build your own rocket motors yet

I never got into the rockets. As a kid we built them. Flew them and they would usually get stuck in a tree. Can’t fly them at our club field, it is an old landfill. Don’t want anything to go BOOM

The white plane was built by a club member for training new flyers. It’s heavy, and doesn’t have great flying characteristics but for training it does the job. Built like a tank, has taken some bad landings and asks for more. The body is a rain spout, with a random aluminum channel for the frame. Solid foam wings, fiberglassed. In the event of a crash you only worry about what the plane hit!! Probably go through a barn. Lol. The spitfire is waiting for me to finish some landing gear work.
Retractable landing gear is cool, and a must for any sort of scale appearances but unless you fly from asphalt it is a major weak link in the plane. It’s a love hate relationship

I have been known to fock things up royally without any formal training .
People think it is a hobby of mine and I just say its a way of life that I stuck with.
On another note I just harvested 6 green cracks .2 were the best out of the earth box.
If ever I had a son I would name him Mephisto if he looked like me..
