Hi everyone out of 4 femmed seeds I got the 2 afghan kush growing. Both were germed at the same time.. One seems fairly healthy and thriving and the other is a dwarf in comparison. Now they both show signs of yellowing.. I had them in a FF ocean forest mix and thought it might be that.. ( changed it to a milder mix) Then instead of using tap water ( aired for a few days) I have started using distilled water.. No nutes yet they are both under 4- 27 watt 6500 CFL's under a reflector 24/7.. for now. I recieved my PH up and down bottles but am waiting for a Hanna PH meter to arrive from HTG. I also have 4 white rhinos that are just srouting out of peat pots under the lights with the plastic cover and am misting them several times a day. I am attaching photos because of the yellowing.. I want to be rid of this problem and move on. here they are. ( you really cant see by these phots the yellowing well. as in being here) Thanks Hero

Hi hero,

For some reason when I click on your pics the last one is the only one that I can click on again to enlarge for a good look. In that last pic I can see the tips of the new leaves coming in at the top appear to have nute burn. When you get your ph meter you will be able to figure out right away if it is a ph issue. How recently did you switch soil?

Well I switched like a 2 weeks ago when they were both really small.. seedlings. and I could see the first signs of yellowing. burn. Now I just put them both back in FF ocean forest. because they are bigger Also I have three new babys some 2 white rhino from nirvana and something called TNT kush ( free) tell me something sensistart fan or anyone who reads this. After sprouting babys come out of peat pellets I dont want to put them directly in FF hot soil what do I use? It seems like all the soils at places like HD have soil with nutes or if organic have like cow manuew or something.. Thanks Hero

if your growing for yourself, your there buddy. ;)

I hate soil. One must own a mass spectrometer to obtain such precisely metered feedings in soil as one does with hydroponics. Soil is like a CD. Hahaa. Just old technology as far as im concerned. I havnt used it in years. :)

im with Kushman on this one.. i started in hydro.. DWC.. then i went to ebb and flow then top feed drip system. the first time i did soil i had so many bugs and i had to water by hand every day or 2. Hydro is so much cleaner and easyer... i have 25 plants in flower and the only thing i do from day one to finish is change res once a week and raise the lights. sometimes i go days without even looking at them.. same with all my veg plants and mothers..

The one good thing about soil is, under cfl, a plant in soil will grow slow and short. Plants in soil under cfl will get bushy and compact. Growing in soil may be a better way to go when it comes to mothers that you want to keep for years on end. Keeping mothers in hydro is alot more work than keeping mothers in soil.. imo

I'm different. I tried DWC and soil and I actually prefer soil. No air pumps, no air stones or plastic tubing, no lugging around 10 gallon res's, it's easier for me to move the plants around the garden area, no res temps to worry about, and I think that soil is more forgiving on your plants than hydro when you make a mistake. But that is just my opinion, I like being a dirt grower.

I love this debate, I have it all the time with a friend who grows in soil.
I often say to him, "You are a repressed child whose mother wouldnt let him play in the dirt! I bet thats why you have porn all over your grow room walls"
He doesnt like it, but I love teasing him lmao

Try leaching your medium with lots of water. Fill your cups with medium, place them in a larger container and pour copious water through them, let them sit and soak for a couple of hours, then drain and repeat until you feel the love. Drain well for several hours and go for it.

Keep in mind, when you've done this, you have virtually no nutrients in the medium now and will need to feed earlier than usual.
