How many plants will yield good with a 400wHPS that put out 50,000lumens in a 3x3 spot. TY for replies

clones or from seed? If from seed I wouldn't try more than 4, but I have done 6 in a 2'x3' it was just a little (alot) cramped, if from clones then you could fit more in pack them in tight.

depending on strain, not more than 6 imho. I'd scrog 4 in that space

my current flower room is 32"x30" and i just p[osted pix in my GJ of my whole crew i got jammed in there. and all is still well. and as matter fact im jammin in 3 more small 1.8quart pots wit 2 clones in each 12/12 strait from rooting.
i always try to fill in the nooks and crannies wit oddball clones in small pots.
also if you train your plants you may be able to manipulate ya space a little better too.
then again i also dont veg my plants very long. mainly i do clones strait 12/12 after roting in starter pots for week or two then i transplant multiple clones into big cat litter buckets and lst the hell outta them. lol
good luck to ya.

PS i am also runnin a 400 hps wit few cfl's on the side to fill in the dead spots mainly.

the first 2 rounds i did from seed and i vegged i believe 4 weeks give or take few days.
tho my first round was prolly extremely stunted due to my lack of exp. but my 2nd round i did in 2 gallon grow bags cut down in half(height) vegged 4 weeks and i had i believe 10-12 in there an it was a crampin big time then.

Im tryin to veg like 4 or 5wks too. About how many grams perplant did that throw you?

i was usin cfl's then so hard to say. i do know taht my results wit an hps are by far more outstanding than wit cfl's .

can any1 guesstimate what youd get from veggin 4-5wks and then flowering regularly

depends on alot of things man, your strain, how your growin them, too many variables to guess how well they will do.

the first pic is at 5 weeks veg, the second 2 pics are 3 weeks flowering. i flipped my plant to 12/12 at 5 weeks. i might get a 1/2 oz (dried) off the plant using 26w cfl's

Alright man, I use a 400w in a grow space just a little smaller. 6 plants would be really tight in that space if you want to do any veg. I would do either 2 and utilize LST and let them really fill out, or do 4 plants. This is not a dig towards you, and not meant to be offensive, but being that you are asking these sort of questions I have to assume you are fairly new to indoor growing. That being the case what you yield from a plant is going to be less than someone with a few grows under their belt. Do not worry though, you will get better with each grow and your first grow will pay for itself in supplies compared to trying to buy the same bud of such a high quality. You should hope for 3-4 ounces with either 2 or 4 plants, the only thing that will change is your veg time. Are you growing in dirt or hydro? Are you vegging with Metal halide and then switching to HPS for flowering?

Rosenthal says 1 gram per watt is what to shoot for, with optimal growing conditions, I have yet to get that, I'm on my 4th indoor grow, but I grow in soil, hydro will increase yeild. last grow I got .7g per watt.

Yeah Ive never grown just plannin my 1st grw now. Growin in soil and Im gettin a 2'foot floro fixture with two bulbs that put out 5,000lumens each. Im gonna use that for veg then switch to HPS on flower

There is no reason to jam more plants than fit into a space comfortably. You are probably going to yield x number of grams, regardless of the number of plants you have. More plants does not mean more yield. Your lighting and the strain play a far greater part in determining yield than the number of plants. You can flower a lot of small plants and get less than an oz each or have fewer plants and yield more per plant.

You could save the money on the fluorescents and just use your hps for veg/flower.. be better then the fluorecents... throw the xtra cash into something else.. venting/nutes/polly,mylar/timers/pumps/soil/pots/fans/ ph testers. toys... hehe.. hell i have some fluors.. heheheheh.. not using them either..
i made that mistake by maxing out my tent with 8 plants and growing them out huge.. whoops... i think i will still be ok but next time i will knock em down 2-3 plants.. and LST can be done if your new or old its easy to do... i find pipe cleaners the easiest to wrk with.. seen a few people using them also.. hope i have helped in some way or another..
take care play safe..

why is that a mistake?
where was he going to veg/keep mothers/clones/whatever when his hps is in bloom cycle then?

i disagree. i use fluoro's for vegging.. obviously it's not ideal, but it keeps me going with new plants ready when i take my current crop down.

He would probally keep them in his tent/box/room... but most keep mothers seprate from the rest of there grow.. "MOST" not all.. pending on whom ever.. ive been using fluors and CFL's since i have switched over to small HPS lights such as 70W.. also alot of people dont have the room to have a 3 stage op.. with a clone room/mother and veg and flower.. so they will do most of there veg in there "flower room" after there crop is done.. so they plan there clones to enter there "veg/flower room" when the crop is done.. IMO... so one would have a box/room/tent to clone and moms.. then another tent to veg then flower... if your a "small op"

i disagree. i use fluoro's for vegging.. obviously it's not ideal, but it keeps me going with new plants ready when i take my current crop down.

and now we can see how everyone does there own thing eh....
