I have just upgraded my 3 lights to 600w from 250w (only one is running at the moment as I only have 6 clones) and when I was in the grow room today I could smell something burning! I went over to the AC unit and it was coming from that, I touched the side of the AC and it was burning red hot. Does anybody know anything about AC unit as I only got it a year and a half ago at a cost of £250.

I think I might buy 1 twin cool tube with 2 1000w bulbs, would 500 m3/h cool 2000w (8.3 square metres a minute).

Also, is a 1000w light 4.5 amps?

What type of exhaust fan do you have?

A 1000w HPS is more like 9 amps

It is a 500 m3/h inline fan. I didn't think a 1000w would be that high! I will have to upgrade the electrics aswel then.

ask vancouver guy he has electrical expierence. (Alot) he may be able to tell you about the ac. and will be able to tell you about the amps it pulls.

I have sent him a PM, also, what grade wire will I need to rig up 2 1000w lights (I live in the UK) 2.5mm wire? live, nute and earth... would I need the same type of wire they use on electric ovens/hobs?

Wait for vancouver guy to reply to you. Will no what to do..

i`m not an expert but when it comes to wireing i always go as large as is possible. dont want them getting hot.

Thats what I am weird about, with so much power going down the wire I don't want to start a fire. Am thinking of putting them on their own fuse box.

where r u located?... I'm familiar with electrical in the US and Canada, but not other countries.

However, it's prob safe to say that you would be fine running the 2 - 1000W lights on just one circuit.

check the label on the AC unit... it will tell you the draw.

I'm sure you would need to have it on a separate circuit...which I would do anyways... you don't want it to be on the same circuit as the lights anyways, as the unit turning off and on will create voltage draws and spikes that might interfere with the operation of your light's ballast.

Because of the possiblity that you are located where I am not familiar with your electrical standards, I don't want to give you assurances that I am not 100% clear on myself. ya understand?... I don't want you to go burning your place down cuz I'm assuming.

I'm an general construction electrician... not an HVAC specialist.

hope this helps some....

Thanks Vancouver Guy for your response,

I live in the UK, could you also help me with the following?

Q1. I was thinking of buying 1 twin cool tube with 2 1000w bulbs, my question is - would 500 m3/h cool 2000w (8.3 square metres per minute) or would I need a bigger one?

sorry, bud... I couldn't tell ya. never used a cool-tube myself... someone else here would have to answer that for ya, but I'm sure that there is something in the specs that tells you the cfm(or m3) requirements of the unit. just ask the dude(tte) at the store that will be selling it to you... I'm SURE it will tell you...

living in the UK, I can't give you any electrical advice (I could, but I don't wanna be responsible for something happening) you have different codes over there than here.

No worries Vancouver Guy thanks for your help...
