I have an extra 10 watt 32cfm muffin fan that blows on my 400 watt hps magnetic ballast. It is always cool to the touch. My questions are:
does cooling the ballast make it more energy efficient at all?
make it less efficient because it dosent get good and hot?
or nothing but piece of mind that i could lay a piece of paper on it all day and it not catch fire?

Thanks for the input! I have wondered about this for a while.

The cooler it runs the more efficient it is but its not necessary.
