S Stoney Bud Guest Apr 11, 2007 #2 Here's the way to calculate the light for your grow no matter what size it is: 3,000 lumens minimum for each square foot of plant canopy. 5,000 lumens is much better. Slide all your plants together so that they are just touching. Measure how many feet it is on two sides. Multiply those two numbers together and you have the square feet of your plant canopy. For each square foot, use the amount of lumens I mentioned above.
