lighting set up

will pointing 1000watt hps up from the floor help with veg/bloom periods or will it burn the underside of the leaves. A newbie wants to try this as he feels it will maximize his grow.I understand what he is thinking however I feel the underside is too sensitive to withstand the lights.Any thoughts???

You would think that it would make the plants grow down... If it was CFL's it would help (i only know that from experince)
