What are the thoughts out there on harvesting in phases or specific buds as the pistils and the trichomes reach a desired stage?

I'm not sure how far apart any one bud is from another in terms of development. I'd have to assume they're pretty close. However, I'd like to pluck a nice bud to have it begin drying/curing .

How much stress would clipping a side cola introduce? She's a northern lights auto.

If you are doing a small personal grow then it is usually no problem to do a tiered harvest. I like to cut the top 1/4-1/3 of the buds that are ripe (especially if I have a deep canopy where the buds are at different stages of ripeness), and then leave the rest for another week or two. If I have a real deep canopy and don't have any plants ready to go in behind them then I will do the harvest in 3 segments. :)
