Strange MH bulb

It looks to be a metal halide that fits into a regular socket.

Never seen one of those before.. but I think you're right about it fitting regular socket (E26).

I'd shop around for CFL instead, you can get superior watts per lumen.

Sure, it's kind of expensive for the lumens; I've just never seen such a bulb before.

Thats cool never seen one before, still needs a ballast from what i read.
