What guage wire in 1000watt HPS?

Ok so I've tracked down the source of my heat issues and it is definetly the ballast. Its not in the grow room just the closet which has the door shut. So I need to get it out of there. Problem is I'm going to have to lengthen the cord that goes from the ballast to the light socket. I'm assuming its a standard 3 wire setup just like an extension cord, even though it has that crazy plug. I'm curious what guage wire you all sugest? I was thinking of 12 but wonder what you guys think. Thanks.

12 or 14 would be what i'd suggest.

Wasn't aware of that, thanks. I already had a 15ft cord and I ended up being able to have just enough to get it out of the closet, just not enough to keep it totally out of the way. I'll just have to be careful with it. As for it lowering the temps I've already seen a 7 degree drop.

What i do for my light is run a special exhaust right to my ballast and get that heat out of my room ASAP!
