Remember when security camera footage of Santa Ana police raiding an unlicensed marijuana dispensary went viral in June? Drug raids just like it happen all over the country. However, this one caught the countrys attention because the cops were caught on film playing darts, eating marijuana edibles, and making violent amputee jokes.
As Gawker points out, the video is back in the news mainly because three of the unidentified officers and the Santa Ana Police Officers Association have filed a lawsuit in the hopes of removing the footage from the evidence pool against them.
According to the Orange County Register, the police unions attorney, Corey W. Glave is arguing the video was taken without the officers knowledge. In addition, Glave alleges that the dispensarys attorney, Matthew Pappas edited the footage in a way to make the police look bad before releasing it to the public:
Even so, Glave and the police union argue that both videos are an invasion of the officers privacy. No seriously, thats their argument:

According to the Orange County Register, the police unions attorney, Corey W. Glave is arguing the video was taken without the officers knowledge. The attorney representing the drug dispensary intentionally has misrepresented what happened, Glave said.
Pappas claims he provided both the Orange Country Register and the Santa Ana Police Department with two copies of the footage, edited and raw.
Even so, Glave and the police union argue that both videos are an invasion of the officers privacy. No seriously, thats their argument:
The lawsuit argues that the video doesnt paint a fair version of events. The suit also claims the video shouldnt be used as evidence because, among other things, the police didnt know they were on camera.
All police personnel present had a reasonable expectation that their conversations were no longer being recorded and the undercover officers, feeling that they were safe to do so, removed their masks, says the suit.
The dispensary also did not obtain consent of any officer to record them, the suit says.
Without the illegal recordings, there would have been no internal investigation of any officer, the suit says.
According to Santa Ana police spokesperson Cpl. Anthony Bertagna, no one has been fired as a result of the incident. However, the three officers of the lawsuit allege they have received threats and damages.All police personnel present had a reasonable expectation that their conversations were no longer being recorded and the undercover officers, feeling that they were safe to do so, removed their masks, says the suit.
The dispensary also did not obtain consent of any officer to record them, the suit says.
