while everbody on the east is dealing with this Irene gal im sittin out in clifornia baking in the sun. the last couple days have been hard to bear with weather in the high 90s and still going up into the weekend. Now there is a 1000+ acre fire that has shut down many people entrance to yosemite national park which employs a fair share of my community. I guess it started as a camp trailer caught on fire which spread into the national forrest about 5 miles south of yosemite on hwy 140. the fire even jumped the hwy along side the mighty merced river. There are many agencys in the fight now but the numerous helicopters and plains flyin directly over a pariniod mountain. just kinda wierd on a busy day in the garden to here all of this activity. not too mention the real threat of losing my house:holysheep:

I have never experienced a hurricane, but I know that wild fires can be quite scary.

i am staying up to watch the glow come directly over the mountain towards me. I can see bright red almost turning into flames...maybe in a couple hrs i will see the mountain start to burn downhill on this side. if i remember correctly there is a downhill draft at nite(not good for me)

best thing about fires and night MM, is the humidity rises and the winds usually die down.
The fire 'usually' settles down significantly.
I feel empathy for you, they evacuated us twice this year for fire. One burned within 300 yards of my homestead. THANK GOD for the fire fighters. True to life heroes.
STAY SAFE MM

Several years ago I was escorted into a fire area by military to plumb in water to a remote outfitters camp to try and protect it from a large forest fire. It was quite an adventure.

glad to c that no plants where hurt in all the pandamonium everywhere(except for maybe those mexican cartels out in the foilage) and the fire is still burning but not endangering much at this point. this "motor fire" should be 100%contained by the 9th

Glad you got through it OK Mountainman. Here in Atlantic Canada our problem is lack of sun and one of the wettest summers on record. You'd need a nuclear weapon to get a forest fire going here. Environment Canada's chief meteorologist has said we will have a nice fall, sounds good until you remember that this is the same r sole that said we would have a hot dry summer.
Stay safe and prosper.
