The new Bob Dylan album, Together Through Life, was released this morning and it's terrific. If you've been following Dylan lately, it will be clear to you that this album is an extension of the musical arc that started with Time Out Of Mind and continued through Love And Theft and Modern Times.

Simply put, Together Through Life is well adding to your collection. Amazingly enough, at 68 years old, Dylan is putting out music that's as good as anything he's ever done in his career. The band is superb. Dylan himself has observed that they are the best he's ever played with and that includes All Kooper, Mike Bloomfield, and The Band. It's a startling assessment but, when you listen to these guys, it's one that's hard to argue with.

And then there are the songs. Dylan's wry wit and sense of imagery are infused throughout every cut. This collection, like other recent Dylan work, evokes Dylan's minstrel persona. Dylan's seen it all and chronicles it all with the vision of a poet and the musical sensibilities of Chess Records in the 1950's.

All in all, a great set and a worthwhile addition to anyone's collection.
