Two Quebec men appeared in court yesterday in connection with a shooting at a marijuana grow-op near Maxville that left one man dead and two others in serious condition in hospital.

But no one has been charged with the shooting itself.

[Name redacted], 31, of Rigaud, has been charged with possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a prohibited device, production of marijuana and possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

[Name redacted], 21, of Montreal, has been charged with production of marijuana and possession of marijuana.

Ontario Provincial Police say the person found dead at the grow-op last Friday was a 32-year-old man who died of a single gunshot wound. As his next of kin have not been notified, his identity has not been released.

The names of the two men in hospital were not released either.

"This is an ongoing investigation," said OPP Sgt. Kristine Rae.

"The detectives are continuing to examine the crime scene and interview witnesses. There will be more announcements ( this week. )"

Sgt. Rae also said Concession Road Five in Glengarry, where the shootings took place, will continue to be closed to all but local traffic for "a while yet."

At this time of year, helicopters regularly search the rural areas around the property where the shooting occurred for hidden marijuana plants in secluded cornfields.
