A flower shop was visited by police officers after being mistakenly reported for growing illegal plants
Drugs cops visited the Tom Butler Flower Hire shop in Rock Street, Wellingborough, after an over-zealous official thought he saw the shop growing cannabis.
Shop sales manager Vince Sherkle said: "We had a policeman look around the factory to see if there were any drugs after a building inspector looked through our window and thought he saw cannabis plants.
"We thought it was quite amusing. We have some Boston ferns which do have a spiky-leaf look about them which he must have thought was cannabis.
"To think that a family business which has been here 40 years renting out flower displays should be raided for being a cannabis factory is quite funny really."
But although staff at the shop were surprised by the raid, they were glad to see police were doing their job.
Mr Sherkle added: "The good thing is, it does show that police follow up on what people tell them and they do take people seriously when they report things."
Sgt Dave Harley of the Wellingborough East Safer Community Team confirmed officers had visited the shop and said: "We received information to suggest cannabis may be being grown at a premises in Rock Street and began an investigation.
"As a result of these inquiries it transpired that, in fact, the premises were not being used illegally.
"We do rely on information from the public about any activities they believe to be suspicious, particularly with regard to cannabis factories, and, in a lot of cases, we do find illegal activity.
"However, as shown by this case, sometimes we also find that there is no illegal activity taking place."
The police would urge anyone who is concerned about any suspicious circumstances to contact them on 03000 111 222.

I was searching the net for news like this one because last week my auntie house got raided by local "KOPS" for suspected growing mj in the garden . Turned out them plants were some kind of cassava or tapioca plants . After one and a half hours of looking outside and inside my auntie house , they concluded that no drugs or mj to be found . No apology or anything from the "KOPS" and just said they doing their jobs . Must be the nosy and racist neighbors who tipped them off. LOL !! "KOPSBUSTERS"
