Roots and soil?

The other day I ran out of soil so I thought why not use some of the old stuff from my last harvest?

I removed most of the dead roots but my question is:

Is it ok to use old soil with some dead roots in it or is it a no no?

A lot of people reuse their old soil. I do and never have any problems. Make sure you flush it real well first.
