So I went into my grow room today to check things out, and there is an odor that reeks like puke in there  . What could it be??

For the past 2 weeks or so, I have been alternating between mollasses and Fox Farms nutes every watering. Is this a normal side effect of using mollasses or could some weird bacteria or fungus be growing?? I've never had this problem with any previous grow and the only thing different about this grow is the addition of mollasses. Should I stop using mollasses?

My plants are 8.5 weeks into flower and I plan to harvest in about 3 weeks. They LOOK great, but I don't want anything to ruin my harvest. Please help.

BTW, my grow room is well ventilated and only contains plants and other grow room things.

do your nugs smelll skunky or is there standing waterin the room?

Nugs smell great, just like they should. There WAS standing water, which I just cleaned up....but I've had standing water before and no puke smell. I'm going out for a bit, but when I come back I'll see if the stench is gone, now that the standing water is gone.

Do you got any pics? Could it be MOLD?

I don't see any mold, and the buds themselves don;t stink, just the room. It may have been the standing water, as ganja suggested. But I've never had that puke smell before.

Totally weird because it smells just like someone barfed in there, but no one can get into the room but me.... and there's no barf on the floor. Can't imagine what else would cause that odor.

:watchplant: Molasses is of course high in sugars, the smell you have there could very well be the molasses breaking down and that smell is the "alcohol" the sugers make as they decay. Luckily, you don't seem to have pest problems but that's just a matter of time with any kind of odor, specially odors that smell like either decay/sickly sweet/illness. Check closely for fungus or small molds in the medium. From what your describing smell-wise I'd be on the look out for bugs or mold, fungus more likely feeding on the molasses sugars and that smell is from THIER waste by-products. I give this advice based on my experience working in an organic grocery store where we often have onions and what-not go bad on the bottom of a pile and they smell like someone puked in the bin. UUGGGHH! Maybe cut back on the molasses a bit and rake yer soil or stir whatever yer growing in to break up that layer of whatevers causing the smell. Hope this helps friend. Grow on and be safe.:)

I say cut back on the mollasses and things should be just fine. Give it a couple days and see if it still smells terrible. Keep us posted. Got any pics of the ladies? Take care and be safe.

I've been trying to post pics, but keep getting an 'upload error' (I posted a link to oa pic upthread). I'll try again tomorrow and report back on the status of the odor.

I'm sure it has something to do with the mollasses....it's probably decaying like Sativaweed said. Hopefully it was in the standing water and not in the soil. Right now the plants/buds look great....no mold, bugs or anything, but I don't want this mystery stench to wreak havoc on my harvest.

Any dead animals in there? LOL

That was actually my first thought...that a mouse got in there and died. But if so, I haven't yet found his corpse. Will do a more thorough search tomorrow when I have some privacy.

I'm actually hoping there's something dead in there...I'd rather deal with that than a fungus or bacteria on my crop. But the buds look great right now, no sign of anything bad:watchplant: .

Maybe pull a plant out and see if it smells, plants look OK so I wouldn't worry but make sure the smell isn't the plants, root rot smells bad too but chances are you're fine....plants would tell you if you had rot.

where is this smell eminating from, like where is it coming from? follow your nose

Thats the weird thing....I couldn't find the source. The standing water didn't smell any worse than the air, so I couldn't tell if the water was absorbing the air vapor or vise versa. The only thing that didn't have the odor was the buds.In retrospect, I think it was the standing water, but due to all the fans in there, it swirled the stench all over the room so I couldn't tell where it was coming from.

Today, it smells much better. Still a little hint of the puke smell, but nothing like yesterday. I'm going to clean all the drain pans with bleach and see if that does it.

Thanks for all the replies.

a little h202 might help clear it up if its a root/medium problem. also hygrozyme works wonders breakin stuff down. dont know if this will help but thought id throw it out there. i think sativaweed may be right, if there is some kind of fermentation going on you could get a pukish/vomitlike/half digested food smell. got a dog? chances are if ther is something decaying/rotting that will be his first stop if you let him in there for a minute. just another one of my weird ideas!
