Guys would it be safe to screw 2 600watt ballast onto a 1/4in plywood??

Yes you can do that, but I would suggest that you get 2 smaller strips of plywood to work as stand-offs so that air can get behind the ballasts to cool them. I am not worried about the wood getting too hot. I am worried about the ballasts not being able to cool quick enough to protect them from thermal breakdown. I have 6 of them screwwed to the ceiling of my "grow-lab", and they are on 1/2" ply strips and have a fan aimed at them to keep everyone cool. No problems :)

Yup what hush be sayin I have some homemade ballests bolted to wood but have left them mounted bout inch from wood to allow air flow. Good luck friend and yual be thinkin safe sure yual do well.
