COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The allegations against Colorado Springs Police Officer Josh Carrier continue to add up. Friday Colorado Springs Police Chief Richard Myers announced Carrier is charged with five counts of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust.
CSPD'S Internet Crimes Against Children Unit arrested Carrier on May 11th for being in possession of child pornography, a class four felony. Carrier is a seven year veteran with the police department and a former Horace Mann Middle School Resource Officer. He worked at Mann Middle School from 2009-2010, budget cuts discontinued the SRO program but Carrier continued to volunteer at the school.
After being arrested last week, CSPD put a call out to the community asking anyone with information to come forward.
"Forensic interviews conducted with potential victims and allege that Mr. Carrier has had inappropriate sexual contact with five juvenile victims," Chief Richard Myers, Colorado Springs Police Department.
If formally charged with felonies Chief Myers says he intends on pursuing suspension without pay. Right now Mr. Carrier is on paid administrative leave, CSPD has removed his police credentials, suspended police authority and seized all his police property.
Beau Burnett claims his then 12-year-old son and Horace Mann Middle School student was assaulted by Mr. Carrier back in November of 2009.
"Officer Carrier had my son strip to his boxer and rubbed his finger around the inside lining of my son's boxers, reached in and touched his privates," Beau Burnett said.
Burnett said he pulled his son out of Mann Middle School a few days later and filed a police report with the Stetson Hills sub station but could not provide a copy. He goes on to say when he first reported the incident that he was ignored.
"Told me on the telephone they think [my son is] a liar and just going to leave it at that. And if I wanna have a private investigator look into I could," Burnett said.
The investigation is on going and additional interviews are scheduled with other potential victims. Carrier's arrest warrants have been sealed indefinitely.
