A big marijuana growing operation in Idaho County is out of business.

The Idaho County Sheriff's Office says some 2,777 plants were uprooted in the Bridge Creek area on Forest Service land, near milepost 93 on Highway 12.

It's one of the largest grows in Idaho County history, with an estimated street value of $5.5 million dollars.

On Monday, Sheriff's personnel were assisted by other agencies, in securing the area and taking the plants out. Some were saved as evidence and the rest were burned. No arrests have been made.

Last week Forest Service personnel located the operation and notified the Sheriff's Office. Deputies set up surveillance at the location, then took action Monday. The National Guard supplied two helicopters to support the operation. A small one was used as a spotter and a Black Hawk was brought in to carry away plants.

Those assisting included Grangeville Police, Forest Service Law Enforcement and Fire Services, the Lewis and Latah County Sheriff's Offices, Idaho State Police, Fish and Game and the National Guard.

It hasn't been confirmed if an emergency landing Monday by a Montana Army National Guard helicopter is related to the law enforcement action.

The helicopter made the landing in a field on private land near Jacques Spur Junction after apparent engine failure, shortly after the marijuana eradication operation was wrapping up at around four p.m.

Neither of the two crew members were injured.

The Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office said the helicopter had been operating in the Grangeville area earlier in the day.

Montana Army National Guard spokesman Major Tim Crowe did not confirm that the aircraft had been used in the action Monday but did say that their helicopters can be used in that type of mission.

He said a team from Helena was on its way to recover the helicopter, probably using a semi and flatbed trailer.

The crew was picked up by Black Hawk helicopters Monday night and returned to Montana.
