quick question

How much should I water 5 gall containers. I think I was overwatering them that is why I am asking this. Do I want overflow?

you shouldnt over flow if you have holes in it for drainage . in my 5 gallon bucket i water every 2 or 3 days now with about 48oz of purified water and after 2 or 3 more days i fertilize with organic fertizer with 48 oz of water .
