rockwool or what for starting

I got a hydo system iam working on and going to use hydoton clay balls.
now I need to know how to start the seeds in these clay ball,is it rockwool??or link or please tell me your way..

I am doing a individual 5gal bucket DWC grow and I germed all of my seeds in 2inch rockwool, then when I had root signs showing and healthy growth I transplanted into my net cups and covered with hydroten.

How long was it until you notice roots growing out the bottom of the net cups from the time they sprouted? im curious, im still waiting to see some roots hit the water in them buckets
