My mother loved the stuff. Nobody else in the house liked it, so I didn't see it often.

A bit too slimy for my taste.

I've only eaten it once. It was raw, and I don't remember it tasting bad or being slimy.
My dad used to eat canned asparagus, so we got that for dinner often when I was a kid. Talk about slimy! I hated it.
I didn't eat asparagus again until about 15-16 years ago - went to a Christmas party at my wife's work and somebody brought it grilled and bacon-wrapped. I fell in love and am now an asparagus addict.
