My grow room is outside, so a bit vulnerable to pests. I'll have to remove the plants and fumigate it regularly. I just had a bad spider bite. Cytotoxic venom by the look of it. The bite swelled up about 5 cm across but it is going down now. The bite doesn't look like a violin spider fortunately (a woman died from one of those bites last month, not far from here.)

you got lucky!!! dont have to worry about that stuff here but you just dodged a bullet

Man I hate spiders even more so if they bite! How did the spider get yeah?

? If you remove plants don't you carry the bugs out with them. then after fumigation carry them right back in???

lol we got brown recluses around here dont wanna **** with them! daddy long legs are more common but they're real friendly you can pick them up and they just crawl on your hand. i find they keep away a lot of other pests so i dont always kill spiders i find, just them big brown fsckers

apparently, the docs around here don't know much about the treatment of a spider bite...

i was bitten by a recluse 5 years ago. i was gutting out one of my house trailors, and it fell from a ceiling i tore out, and bit me on top of the head. it began burning within hours. in a week, we knew this was a very bad problem.

the bite festered, until it broke open. it was eating away my tissue at an amazing rate. at first, we thought it layed eggs inside my scalp. luckily, it didnt.

it consumed my whole life for 18 months. i seen over 20 doctors, searching out a treatment. most of these were specialists.

i had to shave all my hair off, that i grew from childhood. the bite covered the entre top of my head within two weeks. we would use creams and bandages around 7 times a day cleaning it.

it was horrible. and once it took off eating my flesh, there was no stopping it. it went like a wildfire.

doctors were parading me like a circus freak. none had the slightest clue on a cure. they would say things like, i want you to try this, or take these, and call me to let me know what they did.  ...

i even drove my 'ol beater truck across state lines seeking help at one point. all to no avail. and my truck left me stranded 300 miles from home. . not a good situation. the gods of bad karma were on me i tell ya.

then one night, very late...bb...

man that is some scary stuff... spiders just freak me out more than anything. but glad you are alright, BR bites are definitely not to be taken lightly

had to smoke. i'm ok now to go on.:hubba: ..

then , late one night, around 3 am, i awoke and my head was burning so bad, so i got dressed , told the 'ol lady i was going to drive to the e.r., cause i couldnt stand it no more. i was losing sleep. and when it came, it was from pure exhaustion.

i drove to an e.r. about 25 miles from my home. i had been to this e.r. many times for this bite, but never at this time of night. well, after waiting for 3.5 hours( no one there but me), i was called to the back. a nurse took my vitals, and said the dr would be in soon.

1 hour later, in pops a 'little person'. i could see this to be the dr from the white coat, and stetoscope.

i tell him my dilemma, and he asks if i mind if he take a look. well, he literally uses me as his climbing stone, and, in seconds, hes standing on the bed beside me, looking at the tissue waste land in awe.

he says hes never seen a spider bite of this caliber. i tell him how i seen drs all over , and he says he cant believe they were treating something they knew nothing about. makes sense.

he writes me out a simple antibiotic 'script , and says, "take all 30 of these. 3x day. it will go away in 3-4 days, but continue the entire script, or it will come back alot worse. "

i'm thinking what could be worse. didnt want to know. i'm looking at him like just another quack in the long list ive already seen. it could'nt be something so simple i tell myself. but i go home agreeing to take them.

i'm here to tell you, karma sent this little man in my path. after 18 months living in a nightmare, in 3 days with this basic antibiotic, it was almost healed. i took the whole 'script. never looked back. it was gone.

i still go to this hospital, to thank this dr. to this day. he is doing an internship there. i have found his weakness. chocolate chip cookies.:hubba:
i take 'em to him often, just to say thank you...bb...

BB--

I hear ya on the brown recluse... I've seen many bites in my old profession (EMT) but never fathomed what head trauma would ensue from a bite from one of those.
I bet you wear a hat in the woods now huh? -
(No, really, I do realize that was in poor taste but alas I could not help myself)

Holy crapstix BB!!!!!

I think you need some stinky spider repellant just in case. :holysheep:

Im really glad to read the happy ending to the story...
It was fate wasn't it?

My sister got bit by a Recluse on the big toe, nearly lost the bottom half of her leg to it.

I didn't feel the bite. My guess is when I was moving a pot I might have disturbed something. I've seen tarantulas around but not often, but many species abound.

Thanks for sharing that story BB, do you know what the doctor perscribed you?

F'ng. he prescribed me Keflex. a lowly antibiotic on the totem pole of medicine. simply Keflex.

i went through meds i couldnt even pronounce. one med a dr prescribed me even could have killed me. he never bothered to look at my file. .
my reg dr wasnt in the day i went, and i was sent to thier dermatologist. he is one that paraded me in front of 8 more dr's, waving a black light over my head. i guess it glowed a pretty neon lime color. .

when my dr found out what he'd given me, it was on. you could hear him screaming at him 40 yards away. i heard him screaming, " did you bother to check this mans file. you have prolly done irreversible damage." plus some other stuff. . whoops...bb...
