A thirty-six-year-old man was accused of growing around twenty mature and healthy cannabis plants in his flat.
Nicholas Gale, from Boyfield Street, Borough, was arrested on October 14 after police were called to a disturbance, the court heard.
The prosecution claimed that when officers got into the flat they found a frame covered in plastic with the illegal plants inside.
It was alleged that six mobile phones, money and a set of scales were also found at the address on October 14.
Gale gave no indication of his plea, though the court clerk had to ask him several times because he has lost the hearing in his right ear.
He was given bail to return to Tower Bridge Magistrates on January 14, when his case will be sent to the Crown Court.
