Greetings MP Community! Still on my first plant and having some concerns again. This time i fear for my plants life. On my first thread for this plant i was having some issues with my leaves curling over and inward. Well, i still haven't resolved this problem and never really was clarified what is causing this. Anyway, i believe i have some more serious problems now. I was forced to transplant my plant to new soil because i had some above ground roots developing and i was using soil that i was told would be difficult for the plant to grow in. Now that (s)he is transplanted to better grounds, it seems her leaves are starting to curl and turn yellow as if they were dying. I was warned that the plant will wilt alittle from being transplanted but should go back to normal eventually.

This yellowing/curling started at the first node and has now started to plague the branches of the second node. If it makes any difference, it seems that they are turning yellow and curling at about the same time. Also, before showing any signs of yellowing, curling, or death, the leaves branched from the second node each had a brown spot. Don't know what this means either but may mean something.

The part that confuses me most.. It seems like the plant is continuing to grow from the top. Just finished growing another 2 branches from the fifth node and now is growing leaves from the sixth. I'm hoping something can be done about this problem. I do not have pictures uploaded yet because I currently do not have possession of my digital camera. I will be uploading pictures within the next 2 days for visual purposes. So that you are not totally in the dark about my plant, here is the care program i am conducting within my grow project:

PLANT DETAILS
===========
-9" tall
-32 Days Old (Started 10.19.2006)
-Strain Unknown
-Grown from Seed, Germinated in Soil

CARE SCEDULE DETAILS
=================
-Watering done by Weight Judgement
-Lights are 2-4" away from top of Plant
-Using Miracle Grow Moisture Control Potting Mix
-Using One 19w and One 26w Soft White Compact Fluorescent Bulbs (2900 lumen output)
-PH Unknown (don't have a PH meter yet)
-In Vegetative Stage of Growth
-Temperature kept at ~80-90 Degrees
-Small Closet Space (16w x 18d x 54h)
-Dual Fan Window Ventilator (always on)
-24 hr Lighting Scedule

Thank You in advance. Here is the my previous thread for this plant for reference: http://www.marijuanapassion.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7261
Keep in mind, i am a noobie grower so i still do not know a whole lot on growing. I am reading everyday and learning more so please lend a helping hand and expand my horizon.

Sounds like nute deficiency, should try to add another bulb if you can, 1600 lumens is pretty low, even at 2 inches. Try to get something to check ph with, people are going to be reluctant to help without that info. Are you using tap water?

thanx for the reply. I plan on getting either a 42w and 26w cfl, or two 42w cfls tomorrow when i go out. I'll check for a PH meter as well. I am using tap water that usually sits sealed up for at least a day.

I used to give it nutrients in the previous soil it was in but have stopped now that i have moved it into MG Moisture Control Soil. I have read that others have hurt their plants when using nutes in addition to MG Soil.

I am new also, we are actually just starting together. I have not had any problems to diagnose yet, so I'm not very good at it. My plants just don't seem to care what I do, they just grow. I have tried to wait for deficiencies and stuff to feed, and then I even tried to see if I could identify overnuting, nothing seems to work. It must be my soil, I guess I got lucky. I am sure that will all change once I go hydro.

She may be locked up (overnuted) from before. I am just going to have to say wait for a pro to chime in, but in my opinion, you appear to be doing the research and puttin' in an honest effort, so I'm sure the experts will show up soon. I think Fluid1 and TBG have experience with that soil, might want to pm one of them. TBG usually shows up late at night.

Definately get the lights and any kind of ph meter, even strips, is better than nothing.

If you can, try and get an analysis of your water, I've heard you can contact your local water company and it is readily available.

Good Luck

picked up a 3pack of 26w bulbs. I have the existing 19w bulb in with a 26w bulb now. Until i get some kind of multi fixture to hold 3 bulbs at a time, my lumen output will remain at 2900. I thank you for the comments so far Elephant Man. I wish you great luck with your current and future grows.

Anyone else have any input on the subject? i'm still investigating this strange occurence of the leaves dying.. as well as practically all of my leaves curling inward. I will be posting pictures tomorrow. Thank you

You can get a screw in adapter to convert that fixture you have to an outlet;) .

here's the current pictures of my plant and the problems (s)he's having. Sorry it took so long to get pictures on my thread. hope this helps and someone can shed light on my issues. Thanx in advance!

The first two pictures are full body shots where the damage on the lower leaves can be seen as well as the whole plant in comparison. The third picture is the damage on the seed leaves, first node's, and the second node's leaves. The fourth picture shows a mug shot of my plant as well as the nodes very clearly. The fifth piture shows the problem that i have had pretty much from the start. Most of my leaves are curling inward and are starting to show signs of rippling. Any help would be appreciated.

Well at first glance sure looks like a heat related problem. What are your temps at the top of your plant?

now that i have two bulbs going at once, i would say that the temperature around the top is about 88-90. When the curls/ripples started showing i had the temperature of my grow space around 80-82 degrees.

thanx for the suggestion TBG. and congrats on the 4000th post. Any other thoughts on the problems of my plant? as i still havent been able to reslove it, at least it isn't getting worse..

Okay, I'm really new ya understand, but I am going to guess lockout, from either too much sodium, or calcium, or high ph from high ppm, high alkaline tap water. Just a crazy idea from a few weaks of researching, and if I'm right, I have no idea what to do about it. But hopefully an expert will not be able to resist correcting me if I'm way off.

edit: Just for the heck of it, I'm going to take a stab at a possible correction to the above, again just a guess.
Flush with filtered (and hate yourself while your doing it:rolleyes: , because the plant is hating you;) - flushng=last resort)
Transplant with some 'less hot' soil mixed with a little dolomite to try to help ph
Get a ph tester and filtered water, some ph down, and adjust your water to the LOWER end of the scale for soil. Your going to have to look it up, but I think it is around 6.
Pray that somehow the new low ph condition will help some kind of shift in nutrients that are available. I bet your tap is 7+, probably blocking any nitrogen or something.

dolomite huh? didnt know that playing a cheezy 70's black porn would help that much.....JUST KIDDING...sry couldnt resist

Check out the nute mix in that miracle grow. What's in it and how long does it stick around for. I vote (again) for overnuting.

BTW, some of the newer nutes are bioavailable over a wide ph. Read up on it and make sure you are not 'fixing' a nonproblem.

I think nute lockout is a little overhyped. Usually my problem is in amount -- I usually give too much rather than too little.

hmmmmmmmmmmm..those leaves look like a classic case of magnesium defficiency. MG is infamous for lacking in mag. their nutes have "0"....and it IS an essential micro nutrient for mj.
