I have 6 mother plants under a 600W HPS light, the light is about 8" above the tops of the plants in a cooltube (so next to no heat at all), I fed the plants every 2 days befor I got the cooltubes but since I have had the cooltubes and the light is closer the soil is drying out in a day even tho the temps are cooler in the room. Is it because the light is closer and as a results of that the plants are drinking more?

Thanks in advance..

Probably. Your giving them more light and more energy. They will grow faster and drink more.
