imo its easier taming the water than it is taming the soil for required ph especially if youre using tap water for plants since it has to sit for chlorine to evaporte anyway, plus tap water ph changes over time.

You must have been very overpriced even the prices the OP is stating is high for me. For my 600watt ballast i paid only £40 (approx $75 ?) for analogue, now for a digital system youre only looking at double that. 400/600 watt digital ballasts seem fairly cheap @ around £100 for both each but...

Lemon juice ftw i use a tablespoon of that to 2 gallons of water to get my tap water from 7.6-7.8 to 6.9ish after the chlorine has evaporated ofc or i would use bicarb to raise the ph PS vinegar is too unstable not a good idea :P
