400w HPS with Ballest...

Question, I have a 400w hps light with ballest and i was wondering if i could use a bulb that has a lower wattage because its making my grow room too hot. Could i use a 200w? or will the bulb blow?

no you have to get new ballast/bulb they aren't interchangeable

I was told mine(which is the same as yours) if you dont have that switch that changes it from hps to mh.I have 1 ballast that has that switch,and 1 that doesnt....I would not do it if it was me unless you have a interchangable ballast

your bulb and ballast must be equal wattage...

i asked the ppl at the light manufactureing place where my lights came from and he said if you went to a smaller wattage bulb it wood probably burn out lots quicker and may inturn damage the ballast. so not adviseable to do that.
