Car from the U.S. cheaper?

With rising gas prices and the CAN dollar in good shape, I was hoping to look for a fuel efficient car just across the border.
I'm having such a hard time trying to find out the cost of say a Smart Car or something similar.

Here the Smart is about 16,000 smackeroos!
How about in the U.S.?

but yea in the us they got honda fits (its what im looking into) my turbocharged nissan 240sx is killin me (only takes premium)
