I want to get a 400 watt metal halide. I would like to know about how much it will increase my electric bill?

Ive also been looking at LED grow lights. Are these any good? or is it best to grow with HPS and metal halide?

My electric bill for my 400 watt metal halide is about $45.00 a month when using 18/6 lighting. However, I pay a reduced rate.

There are other appliances that use more electricity than a MH light. One would be a space heater, for example. I believe those use about 1500 watts.

You need to know what you pay per kilowatt of power and every 2 1/2 a 400 watt uses 1000 watts or 1 kilowatt. ....If your rate is $0.10/kilowatt then every 2 1/2 your light is on it is costing you a dime. A day would be like $0.96/day...$28.80 a month plus tax..this is just an example if the light is on 24/7.....I would stick with HID lamps the leds just ain't there yet
