How often should the plants be watered in veg and flower stage?

I have been spliting a gallon between 8 plants for the last 8 weeks every 3 days. Should be plenty. I uped it to 2 gallons split between the plants when I put them in flower. This is by no means a rule or anything. Just what I did.
