I bought some Organic Miracle Grow and perlite from a near buy nursery because ive never done a organic grow. I remember reading in the forums that wood ashes are benificial to plants but I dont understand how? Do they have N in them or are they just rich in nutients?

They are a good source of Potassium (K). I have used them and love em.

I've used wood ash in my compost piles and had some really great soil. I just dumped the wood ash out of the grill into my compost pile. Was some great stuff. Just my thoughts. Take care and be safe.

It acts like perlite and airates the soil so the roots can breathe as well

I believe nutrient values are dependant on the type of wood that the ashes are from.
Check Mutt post in the organic section on "Nutrient values of stuff", I think the title is. ;)
